The Scientific Network

Here is a visual representation of Taylor White’s very varied network of friends linked to the sphere of natural history and his collecting practice. The size of the nodes is determined by the number of specimens these people contributed to the collection. The members of this network were either mentioned in the plates, in correspondence or they belonged to the same institutions as White. This network is, of course, only based on the available data and many of his relations must have remained unrecorded. For example, we can see that a significant number of his specimens were coming from unnamed members of the Royal Society and colonial statesmen.
